Animals are the workhorses of a coffee reading. They show up often, they are easy to spot, and every Turkish grandmother has a firm opinion about each one. A snake is not simply trouble and a lion is not simply strength. What the animal is doing, and where in the cup it sits, changes the sentence.

Reading them together
Animals rarely stand alone in a reading. A dog beside a heart is loyalty in love. A snake next to a coin is money trouble with a face you know. A lion under the rim with an arrow pointing up is authority arriving fast, usually yours.
Pay attention to pairs of animals too. Cat and dog together read as a quarrel between two temperaments, often two people you can name. Fish beside bear is money that needs protecting. When an animal sits beside a letter shape, the tradition gives the animal that person’s name.

Do animal symbols mean the same thing in tea leaf reading?
